About the Artist
Lindsey Kapoor is a sculptor who lives and works in Chico, California. Her work is deeply rooted in nature and spirituality, which have been recurring themes throughout her art career and life. Her wall mounted sculptures are composed of paper that has been naturally dyed using materials found or grown in her surrounding area. Kapoor has earned a BFA in Printmaking from California State University, Chico, which has undoubtably influenced her fascination with paper and its possibilities. She is an active member of the arts community; displaying her work in many local and national exhibitions. Notable shows include the 81st annual Crocker Kingsley exhibition hosted by Blue Line Arts in Roseville, as well as the Left Coast Annual Juried Exhibition at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica.

My works are a tangible expression of my awe and spiritual elation experienced while exploring the natural world. These wall mounted sculptures are abstract, yet feel familiar, as their shapes reference my observations of plant life and landscape. My process starts with collecting flora and making natural dyes. A variety of colors are extracted from flowers, leaves, bark, and food scraps. The dye is used to stain paper, which is then cut, rolled, torn or folded in a repetitive manner. This repetition becomes a form of meditation. Each piece is filled with prayerful intent as I contemplate the splendor and serenity of the natural world. Our earth humbles me, overwhelms me, and brings me a peace that is like no other. I believe that my work represents that sentiment, and my hope is to use nature as a catalyst to bring spirituality into the physical realm of sculpture.
